A blowout preventer is a safety device that can be used to prevent the uncontrolled flow of liquid and gas during well-drilling operations. The blowout preventers are large high-pressure valves that can be controlled remotely. So these large valves can prevent the blowout in the oil and gas wells. These valves would seal off the surface of the well which is being worked upon or drilled. The blow-out preventer valve would close during drilling if there is an overpressure created as a result of an underground zone resulting in the formation of fluids such as natural gas or oil to enter the wellbore and it could affect the functioning of the rig. The blow-out preventer valve is mostly closed by the hydraulic actuator and it will be controlled remotely.
The blowout preventer is comprised of four main components, stacked one upon another. They are the annular preventer, blind ram, blind shear ram, and the pipe ram. There can be many different configurations, sizes, and pressure ratings, dependent on well design, formation pressures, and areas of use. The BOP is attached to the steel casing that is cemented around the well bore. The drill string is suspended through the center of the well bore. This is the rotating pipe to which the drill bit is attached.
Annular blowout preventers are divided into single annular blowout preventers and double annular blowout preventers, wherein one annular rubber core and two annular rubber cores are installed respectively.
We divide the blowout preventer into single-ram, double-ram, and triple-ram boP, with one, two, and three pairs of RAMS installed to seal different strings and empty Wells, respectively.
Annular blowout preventer is also called multi-effect blowout preventer. Firstly when sealing the well, the annular rubber core is evenly squeezed to the center of the wellbore, secondly it has the advantages of high pressure, reliable sealing, convenient operation and rapid opening and closing. Especially suitable for sealing strings of all forms and sizes, as well as completely sealing wellheads.
Annular blowout preventers can be divided into conical rubber core, spherical rubber core and cylindrical rubber core blowout preventers.
